Everything in life, one way or another, involves exploration and research. I think it is human nature for us to experiment and read the works of others before venturing out into something unknown. It wouldn’t come to a surprise that even in blogging one needs to do a little bit of research to understand this craft and being fairly new to the blogging scene (even though I have been in the blogosphere for a year now), I’ve encountered numerous blogs and vlogs that tackle the same content that I am imparting on to you, my readers, and I couldn’t help but love some of my competition.
Thus this new feature was born (I do hope I stick to this!). Sharing The Blogging Love or STBL pretty much explains itself. Blogs and Vlogs that I admire will be showcased in this type of post. So my very first recommended website is actually centered on fiction writing and descriptions.
The Bookshelf Muse is an online writing reference blog that is created by the wonderful duo Angela Ackerman and Becca Puglisi. They are both novelists and their goal in creating the blog is to help aspiring writers through the path of writing compelling fiction.
The blog in itself focuses on giving writers a resource for descriptive writing. They created different thesauruses that correspond to a descriptive factor of a novel. The blog is famous for its Emotion Thesaurus which features different physical and psychological descriptions of various emotional phenomenons (i.e. love, fear excitement). It became so popular that an actual and electronic book has been published under the same name.
Aside from emotions, writers could also do research with other thesauruses provided in their website:
-Physical Attributes
-Character Traits
-Weather & Earthly Phenomena
– Colors, Textures & Shapes
-Setting
-Symbolism
Thought provoking and straightforward, the bloggers really did a great job in presenting different reactions and sceneries. So when you suddenly find yourself stuck on trying to describe your character’s feeling of happiness visit this blog to find your answer. Trust me it totally saved my butt when I wrote my first ever winning NaNoWriMo novel!
