Did you know that my first ever photograph on my Instagram account was this…
I have been taking photos of books and posting it on the popular social media app for almost 2 years now. I have always integrated literature on my feed, ever since I started taking photos on the app. Books are a BIG part of my life. It is embedded within my soul and without it, I think, I wouldn’t be the same person I am now. It seems everything I say and breathe relates to novels.
Anyway, I started to notice that a lot of people (who I don’t even know in real life) started to like my book-related photos. I was flattered and completely elated by this because I never dreamed of having this kind of reception with my photos.
That is why I decided to turn my personal Instagram account into an extension of my bookish persona. I am incredibly happy that I did it because it introduced me to a wonderful community I never even knew existed.
The Bookstagram (Books + Instagram) community is real and incredibly active! I am so happy that I have interacted with so many people and I even made some friends (woohoo!). I found a niche of genuine people who are all book enthusiasts who take the time out of their day to produce awesome bookish photographs.
I am also amazed at the skill and talent of the people behind their accounts within the Bookstagram community. Just type in #bookstagram at the search engine, you will see tons of amazing bookish photography (when I say tons, I mean TONS). The creativity and effort everyone has put into their photos is greatly rewarding to see and you will definitely witness the passion behind these pictures. This love for books has taken an exciting turn and I am incredibly proud to be part of this community.
Now that the community has gotten a lot bigger, a whole new breed of book appreciation has taken up the Instagram scene. Bookstagrammers are now creating super fun tags such as…
Inspired by these creative tags, I decided to craft my own…
There are LOADS of other great tags in Instagram that I wasn’t able to mention on this post. If you are interested to know more about it, here’s a very comprehensive guide from Sasha (@flipages
and creator of the @booktagchallenge) of the other cool tags that has been floating around:
Read-A-Thons used to be exclusive to book blogging and booktube communities, but now Bookstagram is also hosting their very own reading marathons. Here are some of them:
The creativity and ingenuity of the people in the community can be seen through their feeds and all I can say is “WOW.”
I already discussed my thoughts on how Bookstagram influenced my life in a certain way. Now let’s hear the opinions of some bookstagrammers regarding the community:
Bookstagram is still young and growing, but I see it heading somewhere big. We are welcoming everyone to take part in this fun and awesome bookish community! Grab your DSLR, smartphones and any other type of camera you have and start taking bookish pictures! Let your inner book nerd run wild and free! Trust me, you won’t regret it!
