I dunno if you’re aware, but it was in June of last year that I won my very first giveaway (which was hosted by the fantastic Candy at The Bookish Girl
) and luckily enough I won a copy of Shadow and Bone.
The first time I read the book I was really engrossed with how fun and exciting the novel’s world building was executed.
Ever since I’ve always admired the vast imagination of Leigh Bardugo, so when National Bookstore
announced that they were hosting an event for her, I was over the moon excited. When the day of the event arrived, the same giddiness I experienced of receiving the news came back and I was utterly stoked.
Arriving at the event I was pleasantly surprised to see one of my bookish friends Salve (@cuckooforbooks
) at the event. We talked about how fortunate we were to have been given this particular chance and the fact that we both dreamed about it in our very first encounter with each other was such a trip down memory lane.
Then we met the #PHYABookBloggers (whom I follow in various social media sites. I hope I don’t come across as a creepy stalker-esque person when I favorite or reply to their tweets). I regard them as the veterans of the Filipino Young Adult Book Blogging scene and you might have known them way before I even existed in the blogosphere. Just in case you don’t, here are some of them and their respective blog links (check them out)!
LEIGH BARDUGO Q&A:
Leigh Bardugo arrived the event exuding an aura of a badass sass queen (I like sass BTW). Then when the Q&A started her personality just shined! Leigh was bubbly, perky and incredibly funny.
For the sake of giving you factual tidbits and to avoid any form of misinterpretation, I have included a vlog post of the Q&A below (straight from my booktube channel
*cough* shameless plugging *cough*):
The bloggers asked amazing questions with enthusiasm and sense of humor, which Leigh Bardugo welcome open-heartedly. The moment when Leigh had that impromptu haiku was really priceless (props to Louisse of The Soul Sisters
for thinking of that fun challenge). Also, when NBS
announced that they were giving away Advance Readers Copies (a.k.a ARCs) of Six of Crows
, it felt like I won a car or the lotto (well I’m a newbie at this so you couldn’t blame me).
MEETING LEIGH BARDUGO:
I still find it really surreal that I had the chance to chat with Leigh Bardugo, but the infuriating thing was I was so unimaginative with my ice breaker. You might think that we blabbed about the writing process of the Grisha books or about the magic system of the series, alas it was not the case.
The topic that came out of my brain was about the freaking weather in the Philippines! Yes I spent my golden moments with Leigh talking about her feelings regarding the climate in the country. *face palm* (If you were dying to know her answer, it is along the lines of “she expected that it was going to be torturous but she was pleasantly surprised because it wasn’t that bad.”)
I also gave her a doodle I did of Alina and The Darkling…
I know it’s not fantastic, but Leigh liked it so I am happy!
Then we had our photo taken…
Let’s be honest… I look like I’m about to pee in this picture!
Here are the books I got signed…
Then here is my glorious ARC of Six of Crows!
After the event we all parted ways (it was also FATHER’S DAY at the time, so most of us in the event had plans with our families) and I decided to head on over to the public signing!
Sadly I wasn’t able to meet up with my bookish friends and I feel really bad about it. I do hope that I’ll see them in future signings!
That is pretty much it with my Leigh Bardugo experience! I just wanna say…
LEIGH BARDUGO YOU ARE THE EPITOME OF FABULOUS AND IT WAS REALLY AN HONOR MEETING YOU IN PERSON! I WISH YOU ALL THE BEST AND JUST MARAMING SALAMAT!
ALSO I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO SAY A HUGE THANK YOU TO NATIONAL BOOKSTORE FOR GIVING ME THIS OPPORTUNITY AND FOR CONSTANTLY BRINGING AMAZING AUTHORS INTO THE COUNTRY! YOU GUYS ARE SERIOUSLY ROCKSTARS! *throws confetti in the air*
LASTLY I WOULD LIKE TO EXTEND MY GRATITUDE TOWARDS THE AWESOME BLOGGERS AND BOOK ENTHUSIASTS I MET DURING THE EVENT!
Are you a Filipino Grisha fan who wasn’t able to attend the event? Feeling down you didn’t get the chance to get any book personally signed by Leigh Bardugo? Then you are in luck because, in honor of this momentous event for me, I am giving away a paperback copy of Shadow and Bone AND Siege and Storm!
Yes you are seeing that right! So just click the photo below and join my Instagram giveaway!
